Response to IE Bulletin No. 80-24, Prevention of Damage Due to Water Leakage Inside Containment (October 17, 1980, Indian Point 2 Event)

In response to the subject bulletin, Vermont Yankee has one closed cooling water system within the primary containment. The following is a rummary of cooling water leakage into the containment.

1.

On 4/2/74, a small cooling coil leak on the Drywell Cooling Unit RRU-1 was repaired.

2.

On 11/12/74, a small cooling coil was discovered to have a 1 gpm leak and was replaced.

3.

On 3/24/78, Recirculation Pump Motor "B" lower bearing ecoler developed a small cooler leak. The cooler leak was subsequently repaired. The leak was detected during power opertion by motor cooler leak detection instrumentation.

4.

On 8/12/79, RRU-1 developed 2 tube leaks in the cooler.

Both ends of the tubes were capped to stop the leak.

Vermont Yankee has no open cooling water systems inside the containment.
