'tlashington, D.C.
Cear Sir:
This correscendence is in reference to Eccke-50-239SP concerning t. bee :Jile Island-Unit #1 cf Midd10:cwn, Pa.
It is a fact that Three Mile Island Unit 1 new closed by the Nuclear Regulatory Cc==ission, was not in-volved or damaged in the accident at TMI Unit 2 in.; arch of 1979. Moreover, a poll taken last spring in cities near TMI indicated that in excess of 589 of the residents favored restarting the undamaged reactor.
Unfortunately, the U.S. govern =en has decided tc s:Op the operation of TMI-1, the undamaged unit, during ecd-ification. Yet si=ilar necular plat:s elsewhere are operating while beine medified.
Since the incident, the U.S. electric power industry has respended quickly and forcefully to correct inadecuacies indicated by the accident. These corrections have been and are now being made at the undamaged unit. As a result, this unit, like plants elsewhere, is even safer than it was before it closed for reutine inspection and refaeling way back in 1979 The govern =ent's decision to keep unda=a.ged Unit 1 cicsed, is not only discr! minatory and irratl.cn_al Sut totally

unjustified as well.
Moreover, it is~cesting Metropolitan 3dison and its custeners nearly $500,CCO. a day ! That is,.I5CO,CCC. daily :c purchase scre expensive coal and oil instead of uraniu: for use as fael.
I.et's get Three Mile Island Unit i back in operatien !
