January 9, 1981 Mr. Hugh L. Thompson Serial No. 016 Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation N0/ERSjr:ms Attn: Manny Licitra Resources and Scheduling Branch U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. Thompson:

NEW APPLICATIONS SURVEY Your letter of December 5,1980, requested that we identify all applications and requests which we plan to submit between now and December 31, 1983 and which fall into one of eight specific categories listed in your letter.

With respect to category five (5) - applicatons for Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installations, as covered by 10 CFR Part 72, our current schedule establishes a late 1983 submittal date.

We have completed an initial study of this subject.

Our next step will be to begin preliminary engineering later this year.

We presently hold a construction permit for North Anna 3 and 4.

These units are not covered by category two (2). The most current realistic estimate for construction completion of Unit 3 is August 1, 1989.

We are planning to cancel Unit 4.

Refer to our letter Serial No. 990 dated December 22, 1980.

If you have any questions, or require additional information, please contact this office.

Very truly yours, i

J. H. Ferguson Executive Vice President Power V
