SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 18, 1980 TO DISCUSS GE0 LOGY / SEISM 0 LOGY MATTERS 1.
General Representatives of the staff and its consultant (LASL) met on November 18, 1980, with representatives of the applicant to discuss the geology / seismology review for the facility. The meeting was held at the NRC offices in Bethesda, Maryland. A list of those persons who attended the meeting is included in the enclosure.
2.
Purpose The purpose of the meeting was to hear the applicant's position and supporting arguments on the following three matters:
Reservoir - induced seismicity Richard B. Russell Project Report Charleston Earthquake 3.
Discussion The applicant noted at the outset that the detailed submittal formalizing their positions on the above matters would be submitted in about ten days.
With regard to reservoir - induced seismicity, the applicant took the position that the maximum reservoir - induced event would not exceed Mi = 4.0.
They noted that they have evaluated their facility design and concTuded that the design was adequate for an ML = 4.5 event.

.. - 05 W The applicaat stated that they had reviewed the Richard B. Russell dam report and concluded that the design assumptions were overly conservative and should not be applied to this application.
t Finally, with regard to the Charleston earthquake, the applicant stated that it had investigated studies conducted since the issuance of the construction permit and that its conclusions on regional seismicity are not altered.
