gm DEC 011980 Docket No. 50-364 APPLICANT: Alabama Power Company FACILITY:

Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Unit 2

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF JULY 31, AUGUST 1, AND OCTOBER 16, 1980 MEETINGS REGARDING REVIEW 0F OPERATING LICENSE APPLICATION The staff in Procedures and Testing Review Branch (D. Wigginton and B. Siegel) r have met with the applicant (Mr. D. Morey and Mr. L. Williams) at the Farley Nuclear Plant to review selected emergency operating procedures.

On July 31, 1980 and August 1, 1980, the staff discussed its comments and proposed modifications to the procedures, based on a detailed review.

Procedures reviewed were those for loss of reactor coolant, steam generator tube rupture, reactor trip, anticipated transients without scram, loss of main feedwater and inadecuate core cooling. Applicant revised its procedures, based on these comments. Three of these revised procedures were used in September 2 and SeptenDer 3,1980 to direct Farley Nuclear Plant operators through simulated accidents on the Zion simulator. These three procedures (loss of coolant, safety injection, and steam generator tube rupture) were further revised based on the results of the simulations.

On October 16, 1980, the staff, including Mr. E. Reeves, NRC Project Manager for Farley Unit 1, met with the applicant to walk through the small break loss of coolant accident emergency operating procedure in the Farley Unit 2 control room. This walk through was conducted using the updated procedure.

As a result of this walk through, a few minor changes were made.

The summary and conclusions of the staff's review of selected emergency operating procedures will be reported in Supplement 5 to the Farley 2 SER.
