Subject:
Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Defective CE-I6SE Welds.
Dear Mr. Keppler:
On October 24, 1960, Detroit Edison's Mr. T.A. Alessi, Director - Project Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. P.A. Barrett of NRC Region III to report on defective CE-ISSE welds at the Fermi 2 site.
A review of 19 radiographs in the C-33 syste=, which is a drain line to the reactor vessel, revealed that there =ight be problems with 7 out of the i
19 welds involved. These radiographs were previously accepted by a con-tractor that has since left the site.
Detroit Edison Engineering is presently analyzing the problem, and a final report will be submitted to you by February 24, 1981.
If you have ques-tions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. H.A. Walker, Supervisor -
Construction Quality Assurance.
Very truly yours, i/
