50-296 T. A. Ippolito's letter to H. O. Parris dated September 24, 1980, regarding reactor protection system power supplies, requested that TVA provide (1) commitment to install a Class 1E system, (2) schedule for completion of the modification and (3) schedule for submission of design information and proposed technical specifications.
Our response to this request is as follows.
Item 1 TVA is fully committed to install a Class 1E system to provide fully i
redundant protection at the interface of the reactor protection system I
(RPS) power supplies'and the RPS.
Item 2 This modification will be implemented at Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant before completion of the next refueling outage on each respective unit, beginning with the fal'.1981 refueling outage on unit 3 Completion dates for units 1 and ' are the refueling outages scheduled for fall 1982 and spring 1982, respectively. This extended lead time is required to procure the necessary materials and allow for installation of the modification during a refueling outage. These dates are based on the i
present refueling cycle. For the interim period, the existing surveillance presently.being conducted on the RPS power supply is in complete agreement with NRC requirements for this equipment.
