Thank you for your letter.of October 14, 1980, in response to our letter dated September 10,_1980. As a result of our review, we find that additional information as discussed with you during a telephone call on November 7, 1980, is needed.
Specifically, for Item C: you reference QW-305 as being used for welding operators performance quali-fications.
Friction welding is not addressed-by Section IX of the code, therefore, the requirements of code case (N-55) are imposed. _N-55 states,
="The performance qualifications for inertia welding operators shall dupli-cate the_ test samples, test specimens, and requirements of the welding procedures specification." Therefore, please respond by stating your correc-tive actions, actions taken to prevent recurrence, and the dates by which these actions will be complei.ed.
Please provide this additional information within twenty (20 ) days in order that we may complete our review in a timely manner.
