INTERIM REPORT 2 DATE: Novemb.c 17, 1980 PROJECT: Consumers Power Company Midland Plant Units 1 and 2 Bechtel Job 7220 Introduction This report in submitted regarding the interim status and actions pur-suant to the subject MCAR.
Status of Action Items
- 1) The nuclear high energy line break analysis (HELBA) group has developed and provided data necessary to perform the reanalysis of the pipe whip restraint designs for location (plastic hinge lengths) and siva (energy balance method).
- 2) The civil group has initiated the reanalysis of the pipe whip restraints using the peak thrust forces.
T; The review of the nuclear HELBA group assumptions by the chief engin1ers of fice is in process. No concern of similar signifi-cauce has been identified.
Status of Restraints The attachment provides a status of the 325 pipe whip restraints potentially affected by the concern of MCAR 40.

indicate that a more detailed Phase II review is required then a time history analysis is' performed. ~ Phase.III consists-of any design changes that are required as a result of the reanalyses.
1 It is forecasted that completion of the significant milestones will be !
1 as follows:
l
, Forecasted 1 Milestone Definition Completion Date Phase I Energy balance analysis June 1, 1981 Phase II Time history analysis January 1,1982 Phase III Design modification September 1, 1982 It is noted that the reanalysis is integrated into the normal HELBA production work. and as such, does not readily allow differentiation of I
