Dear Sir:
Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Chlorine Monitoring As discussed in a telephone conversation on November 7, 1980 between L. W. Harding (Met-Ed) and D. DiIanni (NRC) we are requesting a modification to our Technical Specification Change Request No. 34A concerning the Radiological and Non-Radiological Environmental Technical Specifications.
Specifically, we are requesting a modifi-cation to page 7 of Appendix B.
Section 2.2.1 of the Unit 1 Environmental Technical Specifications requires the continual monitoring of chlorine at the plant river water discharge.
If the automated sampling equipment becomes nonfunctional, chlorine concentration is to be monitored by analysis of grab samples.
The chlorine monitoring at Unit I has been performed by the grab method since January 29, 1977, when the automatic sampling equipment became nonfunctional.
This alternate sampling method has been employed with the knowledge of the NRC although formal approval has not been received. Thus, as we have previously stated, we are requesting formal concurrence from the NRC on the attached changed page.
Sincerely, s
D.
