This facility is presently decontaminating its la-"

goon waste holding system.

The material held in the lagoons is being packaged and shipped to burial as rapidly as possible in an effort to complete this pnase of facility decontamination prior to the arrival of inclement weather.

Occasionally, lack of burial space allocation and transport scheduling diri'culties prevent us from shipping packaged waste to burial on a daily and consistent schedule.

This can ressit in a large backlog of packa5ed waste a.ia l t i ng shipment that quickly covers our inner areas.

/-:c o r d i 'ig l y, the Physical Plant Protection Plan has been amended to permit stcrage of packaged lagoon waste nwaiting shipment in the open area and p a r k i n'g lot lo:ated south, southwest of the protected area.

The following applies when packaged waste is stored in the areas described:

Q U

A.

The isolation zone outside the protected a rea.-

[

barrier shall remain unobstructed by stored G.~,

waste.

3.

The storage area shal! receive periodic visualg a

surveillance from the PCAS and SAS operators.

N C.

The parking lot shall be patrolled by a guard or watchman at intervals not to exceed four hours.

This change does not decrease the effectiveness of the Physical Plant Protection Plan and this letter constitutes

.he report required by 10CFR 70 32 (e ).
