Following up our recent telephone conversation, I am quoting fromT' September 24 letter of Mr. M. Jerry VeHaun, Coordinator, Buncombe County Civil Preparedness Agency:
"The telegram you requested was mailed July 11, 1980 to President Carter, Chairman of NRC, Dr. Sarah Morrow and Covernor Hunt and read as follows:
We request that notification of all high-level radiation shipments through Buncombe County and Asheville, N. C.
be made at least 24 hours2.777778e-4 days <br />0.00667 hours <br />3.968254e-5 weeks <br />9.132e-6 months <br /> prior to such shipmen:s, effective immediately.
The telegram was signed by R. Curtis Ratcliff, Chairman, Board of Commissioners, Roy M. Trantham, Mayor, City of Asheville, and M. Jerry VeHaun, Coordinator, Buncombe County Civil Preparedness."
It is most important to us that NRC respond to Mr. Ratcliff, Chairman. of the Buncombe County Commissioners, and Mr. Trantham, Mayor of the Cipy of Asheville. I suggest an acknowledgement of the telegram and some--
reference to the forthcoming NRC rulemaking on notification to govedriors and publication of spent fuel transportation routes.
