LAC-7131, dated September 9, 1980.

Gentlemen:

Reference 2 notified you of our intention to inject grout into areas l

of concern to alleviate any potential for reduction of Turbine Building integrity due to the ' presence of voids underneath the Turbine Building mat.

In order to complete this task, additional holes were cored in the Turbine Building floor and DPC utilized the services of the Prepakt Concrete Company of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to pump cement base intrusion grout. into the voids under controlled pressures.

Injection of grout commenced on October 21, 1980, and was completed'on October 28, 1980.

The basic grout mix was composed of the following materials:

Type I Portland Cement---------2 bags 0 49 p;unds each Flyash-------------------------I bag

@ 75 pounds-Additive (Intrusion Aid)-------l bag

@ 2 pounds 10 ounces Water--------------------------13 gallons l~

Total Volure-------------------Aporoximately 3.5 ft3 1.

The contractor stated that this grout mixture cn<

nds slightly when setting and this was verified by taking snall s lEs"JdE"the time the grout was being injected.

'Mr.1 Dennis M.

Crutchfiel'd, Chief LAC-7253 Operating Reactors Branch No.;5 November 26, 1980 TA. written grouting procedure was reviewed by the LACBWR Operations Review-Committee, approved by the LACDWR Superintendent, and implemented

'during grouting operations.

The procedure called for stopping the-injection of grout if pressure reached 10 psig or increased rapidly, if leakage-of grout from other holes cored in-the floor or from seans between concrete slabs was_ observed, or-if any~ indication of structural.

Jeffects'becane evident.'

Enclosure l'.provides a table.which; includes data for.each hole into-which grout was; injected, and Enclosure 2 includes blueprints

  • of concrete below'the Turbine Building and'lB Diesel Building which designate hole nunbors and locations.

No. cracking.or_other indication of structural effects. as a. result of grouting were noted.

If further information.is-necessary, please contact us.

Very truly yours, DAIRYLAND POWER COOPERATIVE IW

  • NOTE:

An accurate reading for this hole was not possible due to difficulty drilling through concrete.

The final section of core has to be hammered out of the bit and was driven into the sandy soil.below the. concrete.

f TURBINE BUILDING DATA - (Cont'd)

ENCLOSURE 1

    • NOTE:

Injection of grout was secured at 5 psig due to the emergence of water from the NE corner of the machine shop office and watery grout from the joint of the concrete floor slab at the NW corner of the machine shop along piping through the floor.

      • MOTE:

Injection of grout was secured due to the proxinity of the vertical tunnel wall which drops to elevation 629 and the large volume of grout injected.

The distance from the surface of he floor to the final level of grout in the hole was 15" which indicated a level 3-1/2" above the bottom of the concrete slab.
