Description of Event

On October 27, 1980, fire doors S71-7, S71-17, and S71-19 were discovered not functional in accordance with Technical Specification-3.7.15 due to their inability to fully close and latch when allowed to swing freely from a full-open position. Fire door S71-7 is the entrance to the Auxiliary Building from the clean change area and fire doors S71-17 and.19 are the entrance to the IJ and 1H' Emergency Diesel Generator Rooms respectively..This event is reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence

The functional integrity of these penetration fire barriers ensures that fires.will be confined or adequately retarded from spreading to adjacent portions of the facility.

Because a fire watch was established adjacent-to each of the non-functional fire doors, the health and safety I

of the general public were not affected.

gyuse of Event Heavy-use of the fire doors for personnel access caused the associated door hardware to fail preventing proper door operation.

Immediate Corrective Action

4 A fire watch was posted at each of the non-functional fire doors and the doors were temporarily repaired by adjusting the necessary-ha rdwa re~.

i Scheduled Corrective' Action

.Both doors of S71-7 and all hardware except for the coordinator will be replaced. The lock for S71-17 will be adjusted and the closer for the door will be ' replaced. For door. S71-19, the hinges, closer, and mortise will all be replaced.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence t

New designs specific to each door's particular application are being investigated.
