During a November 6,1980, telephone conversation, the NRC Staff requested additional infonnation concerning the Farley Nuclear Plant -

Unit 2 core subcooling monitor upgrade. Alabama Power Company hereby submits the following information in response to the Staff's request.

1.

The readout of the core subcooling monitor will be changed

from " PSI SUBC00 LED" to "0F SUBC00 LED".

This modification l

will include a new meter scale and microprocessor programming changes.

2.

The front panel function switches of the subcooling monitor will be redesignated to delete " TIME TO SATURATION" and incorporate "0F MARGIN" and " PSI MARGIN". This modification will include necessary hardware and required microprocessor programming changes.

3.

The subcooling monitor programing will be modified such that the meter readout will indicate " INVALID" during processor failure rather than maintaining the last valid readout.

4.

The subcooling monitor hardware and programming will be modified to allow for changing caution and alarm setpoints from power operation set to shutdown set.

5.

The internal test routine of the monitor will be reprogrammed to automatically reactuate alanns at the end of test and to permit the verification of the accuracy of the analog meter.

The subcooling monitor programming will be modified such that negative AT values will be displayed with a " " sign if TH or TC is greater than the average T/C temperature.

The software and hardware necessary to complete the modifications to the subcooling monitor are anticipated to be completed and installed by April 30, 1981.
