Identification of Occurrence:

One seismic sensor, ST 6336 in the Cable Spreading Room, was inoperable for a period greater than thirty days.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence:

The plant was in Mode 1, power operation, at the time of the occurrence.

Description of Occurrence:

During monthly functional testing, seismic monitoring sensor ST 6336 -

Cable Spreading Room, did not respond acceptably.

7.

Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence:

The cause of this failure was equipment malfunction. The seismic triaxial accelerometer ST 6336 in the Cable Spreading Room failed to functionally test.

Analysis of Occurrence:

This event had no effect on plant or public safety. During this. period, all other triaxial accelerographs were operable.

9.

Corrective Action:

The immediate corrective action was to attempt a repair of the instrument.

When the onsite repair.was not satisfactory, appropriate spares were obtained.

The channel was repaired and returned to service August 26, 1980, five days past the 30-day period. The permanent corrective action is to maintain sufficient spare parts onsite.
