4 August 14, 1980 14191259-5221 Mr. James Keppler Regional Director, Region III Office of Inspection and Enforcement U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 Dear Mr. Keppler Enclosed is Toledo Edison's response for Jhuis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit 1 to IE Bulletin No.79-01B. The attached report super-cedes completely the attachment of our initial submittal on April 3, 1980 (Serial No. 1-124). Revision 1 applies to items 1 through 5 of your bulletin to the extent that information is available.
The following ? svisions, additions, and/or deletions are provided:
- 1) Additional evaluation work sheets were included to address components that are subjected only to increased radiation doses due to recircu-lating fluid following a LOCA. Note that only radiation and aging is addrassed on these sheets. These evaluation work sheets are refer-enced on the master list and index sheets with a "A".
- 2) Existing evaluation work sheets were revised to include new radiation doses based on the required operating times.
- 3) A new section, Section 3.V was added. This section tabulates to vendors for additional qualification documentation. It is this section that will be referenced on the evaluation work sheets in the " Qual." column under " documentation reference."
All revisions are indicated by revision bars in the margins.
Deletions in sections 2.2, 2.3, 2.5, L,, 2.9, 2.10, and 2.16 resulted from reevaluations showing these items did not meet the engineering safety feature definitions of item 1 in the subject bulletin. Review of the qualification data available has shor:. that all the equipment has met the qualification specifications.

We are continuing to work with vendors to determine more detailed qualification information of the equipment. In some cases, where data was not available, we have made provisions to replace existing equipment, and those are noted in.the evaluation work sheets.
Some replacements are being accomplished during our current refueling outage, but are not
- reflected in this revision. They will be included in future revisions.
In other cases, we are attempting to obtain qualification data and a list of materials used in the equipment so that an evaluation can be completed.
As sufficient amounts of new information becomes available, we will forward this to your office.
Very truly yours, f f v ^ = '- "
