Dear Mr. Grier:

In our response to the above referenced bulletin dated January 3, 1980, Table I provided a summary of our inspection program. The summary table pro-vided information as to the number of welds that were ultrasonically (UT) tested. Included in the summary were welds that were UT inspected on pipes with wall thickness less than .250 inches.

Discussions with one of your regional inspectors and our resident inspector on the acceptability of the UT calibration method used for these

, welds have determined that the method used may yield questionable results.

Since these welds were not required to be UT tested by Revision 1 of the l bulletin, we are submitting a revised Table 1 which deletes data on UT of welds on pipe thickness less than .250 inches. The total represi.ntative t sample requirements of the bulletin for accessible welds of pipe thickness

! greater than .250 inches are still satisfied in accordance with our letter of January 3, 1980.

We trust that this response satisfactorily resolves this item. Please contact my office if there are any additional questions. ,

i Very truly yours, h___

C. N.' Uunn l Vice President, Operations l
