K.R.

Galler letter to J.S. Abel dated August 5, 1974

Dear Mr. Ziemann:

This letter is being transmitted in accordance with Reference (a) to report the status-of the Dresden Unit i HPCI system.

All HPCI system structural work, 95% of the engineering ef fort and 67% of the electrical work have been completed.

Essentially all equipment is on-site.

The major portion of the remaining work is pipe installation and system attachment to the reactor vessel.

A decision, however, has been made to postpone completion of the HPCI project.

The postponement of this project and several others on Dresden I has been made because of short term financial considerations.

The cost to complete the HPCI work plus other large expenditures required for Three Mile Island (TMI)-and Systematic Evaluation Program (SEP) modifications has resulted in our rescheduling of the Dresden 1 return to service date to 1986.

Since no useful purpose will be served by continuing these status reports this will be our last until work resumes on the project.

Current plans are for project startup in 1985.

One (1) signed original and thirty-nine (39) copies of this letter are provided for your use.

Very truly yours, Robert F. Janecek Nuclear Licensing Administrator Boiling Water Reactors MST:mnh/6010A 8008260305
