a.
The packaging consists of an upright, double-walled, steel cask weldment, 3.5' diameter by 4' high, mounted on a structural steel base, with a bolted top plug closure. The cask shell encloses a spodumene gypsum cement neutron shield aggregate. A separate Inner gamma' shield is used, when required, consisting of concentric cylinders of lead and depleted uranium. The inner cavity of the gamma shield is a cylinder 2.5" diameter by 5.12" or 8.43" long depending upon the cover used. Contents are loaded in innermost sealed metal containers which are, in turn, loaded into "special form" capsules, or (when contents exceed 5000 curies),
specifically within the Marman type capsule #MJN 68462.
Either capsule is then placed within an internal capsule holder, or directly into the internal cavity of the gamma shield. The package is identified as the Model 4T neutron shipping cask and is described on Lawrence Livermore Laboratory Drawings Nos: AAA 60-414964, AAA 60-414965, AAA 60-414963, AAA 70-100076, and Aeroquip Drawing No. MJN 68462 (Marman Capsule). The total weight of the package is 7000 lbs. (or 5100 lbs.
without gamma shield).
b.
The contents of each package authorized by. this certificate consists of large quantitles of radioactive materials complying with special form requirements, including fissile radioactive material w~ thin the restrictions stated below.
The maximum thermal decay energy of the contents must not exceed 250 watts, with the contents further limited to dry, stable compounds or solids provided that:
