ENCLOSURE YELLOW CREEK NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 DIPROPER DOCUMENTATION AND UTILIZATION OF COMPUTER PROGRMI " INERTIA" NCR YCU CEB 8004 (FORMERLY NCR CEB 80-17) 10 CFR 50.55(e)
FIRST INTERDI REPORT Description of Deficiency Improper documentation and utilization of the TVA computer program
" INERTIA" have resulted in incorrect shear-related, cross-secticnal property calculations for the control building. The computer program incorrectly calculates the eccentricity of open sections.
The dynamic structural response calculations used for the building structural member and anchor rod designs have been determined to be nonconservative.
The instructure response spectra are also affected.
Interim Progress IVA is revising the program documentation to restrict its use to closed sections only.
TVA is proceeding in two stages to correct the deficiency at Yellow Crees Nuclear Plant.
1.
TVA will calculate new structural responses uring the appropriate computer program for open sections.
2.
After the structural design has been verified and any required changes have been made, the instructure response spectra will be recalculated.
It has been determined that the " INERTIA" computer program was properly utill:ed for Browns Ferry and Sequoyah Nuclear Plants.
TVA is inves-tigating the applicability of this problem to Watts Bar, Hartsville, Phipps Bend, and Bellefonte Nuclear Plants.
