O is90-oi NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION DRAFT REGULATORY GUIDE Notice of Issuance and Availability The Nuciaar Regulatory Commission has issued for public comment a draft of a new guide planned for its Regulatory Guide Series together with a draft of the associated value/ impact statement.

This series has been developed to describe and make available to the public methods acceptable to the NRC staff of implementing specific parts of the Commission's regulations and, in some cases, to delineate

. techniques used by the staff in evaluating specific problems or postulated accidents and to provide guidance to applicants concerning certain of the information needed by the sta'ff in its review of applications for pennits and licenses.

The draft guide, temporarily identified by its task number, OH 941-4 (which should be mentioned in all correspondence concerning this draft guide), is entitled "Infonnation Relevant to Ensuring That Occupational Radiation Exposures at Uranium Mills Will Be As low As Is Reasonably Achievable" and is intended for Division 8,

" Occupational Health. "

It is being developed t'o provide design criteria and administrative practices acceptable to the NRC staff for maintaining occup'thaal exposures as low as is reasonably achievable in uranium mills.

This draft guide and the associated value/ impact statement are being tssued to ir.volve the public in the early stages. of the development of a regulatory position in this area.

They have not received complete staff review and do not represent an official NRC staff position.

. Public cornents are being solicited on both drafts, the guide (including any implementation schedule) and the draft value/inpact statement.

Cxcents on the draft value/inpact statement should be accccpanied by supporting data.

Coments on both drafts should be sent to the Secretary of the Canission, U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Ccmission, Washington, D.C. 20555, Attention: Occketing and Service Branch, by october 15, 1980.

Although a time limit is given for corrents on these drafts, coments and suggestions in connection with (1) ite:s for inclusion in guides currently being developed or (2) ircrevements in all published guides are encouraged at any time.
