Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 6 6)and M 17J.

File 0260/L-860.0/L-401.0 Evaluation of IE Bulletin 79-01A AECM-81/92 Per the request of Mr. John Rausch of your office, Mississippi S wer & Light Company has completed its review of IE Bulletin 79-01A.

..r the non-NSSS scope of supply for safety related valves, Bechtel has determined that valves purchased from Henry Pratt Company with purchase orders 9645-M-257.0 and 9645-M-258.0 were installed at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in the containment cooling and combustible gas control systems containing ASCO solenoid valves with materials not environmentally qualified for their intended service conditions. These items were reported to the NRC by Bechtel as a reportable condition under 10 CFR 50.55(e) and so identified in MCAR 55. Mississippi Power &

Light Company has monitored corrective actions to completion on MCAR 55 via PRD-79/15 and has closed the non-NSSS portion of our review on IE Bulletin 79-01A.

It was determined by Mississippi Power & Light Company that within the NSSS scope of supply, safety related valves in the Control Rod Drive System purchased from ASCO had been installed at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station equipped with the suspect materials identified. These items were reported to the NRC by Mississippi Power & Light Company as PRD-81/14 for subsequent evaluation and corrective action identification as required.

i This letter completes our response and we are planning no additional actions in conjunction with this Bulletin.

Yours truly, 0
