Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
SU3 JECT: Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0260/15525/15526 PRD-80/65, Final Report, Defective Recirculation Pu=p Hanger Co:ponents AECM-81/87 On October 27, 1981, Mississippi Power & I.ight Company notified' Mr. J.
Rausch, of your office, of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) construction site. The deficiency concerns loose threads which exceeded the vendor's tolerances as evaluated by an IT'"
Grinnell representative. These threaded ite=s are on components of the recirculation pump hangers.
As a result of our investigation, we have determined that this deficiency is not reportable under 10CFR50.55(e) or 10CFR21.
Our final report is attached. This is our final response on this ite=.
Please note that our last response, AECM-SO/293, 11/24/80, contained an error in the attachment. The heading should read " Status Report For PRD-80/65" vice " Final Report For PRD-80/65". We sincerely regret any inconvenience that this error may have caused.
Yours truly, gpr J. P. McGaughy, Jr.

Attachment to AECM-81/87 Page 1 of 1 FINAL REPORT FOR PP3-80/65 I.
Description of the Deficiency The Grand Gulf Nuclear Station uses reactor recirculation pumps supplied by ITT Grinnell. An inspection performed by this vendor revealed that certain hanger components they supplied with the Unit I reactor recirculation pumps had loose threads exceeding tolerances. These components and associated part numbers were as follows:
a.
Clevis, four (4) each: Q1333G002H301A, H3013, H3023, R304B b.
Coupling (Turnbuckle), one (1) each: Q1333G002H302A c.
-Large Rods, 2 1/2" X 5'8 1/2", two (2) each: Q1333G002H302A, R3023 d.
. Constant Sapport Springs, three (3)' each: Q1333G002H301A, H301B,'
H303A This deficiency is applicable only to Unit I, and is confined to the ITT recirculation pu=ps.
' 10CFR21 is not applicable.as there is no i= pact on safety.
. II.
Safety-Implications
.The NSSS supplier, working with the vendor, has determined that the deficiency, were it to remain uncorrected, would have no impact on safety during the life of the plant. The vendor has provided a stress report verifying the adequacy of' the noted deficient hardware.
- III. Corrective Actions Due to the above investigation, corrective action will be to use the equipment "as is".
