OI&E Bulletin 78 Air Line Respirators and Supplied Air Hoods In response to the above referenced bulletin, Northeast Nucleer Energy Company hereby supplies the following infomation:
Air-line supplied air respirators operated in the demand mode are not used at the site. All such respirators are either continuous flow or pressure-demand. Therefore, no action is required.
Although supplied air hoods are used, at the site, no protection factors are assumed to ensure compliance with 10CFR20.103.
The hoods are used simply as a matter of good operating practice in order to maintain exposures ALARA, Compliance with 10CFR20.103 is maintained through the use of controls such as stay-time limits, logs of MPC hours, or the use of breathing zone air samplers.
Since certain plant procedures include tables of protection factors for various respirators to be used as quidance in selecting a respirator for ALARA purposes, these tables will be modified to incorporate the information contained in Bulletin 78-07.
