Mr. John F. Ahearne Chairman Commissioner U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission es 4

1717 H. Street N.W.

Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Ahearne:

I believe it is time that our government, including the NRC, put what happened at TMI into proper perspective, and recognize that the best interests of the public would be served by permitting the restart of TMI Unit No. 1.

This unit was not involved or damaged as a result of the accident at TMI-2.

I understand that much has to be done at IMI-2. however, Unic-1 is ready to go and could do much to reduce electricity costs and help Met Ed offset some of its huge debt resalting from the TMI-2 accident.

Nuclear power is badly needed in this count y, but it only benefits Americans when the plants are in operation. The NRC should strive to get plants like TMI-1 back on line as soon as possible, and move ahead as quickly as possible in its licensing process on other plants planned or under construction.

Sincerely.
