SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 19, 1980 TO DISCUSS OPEN MATTERS IN THE GE0 TECHNICAL REVIEW 1.

General Representatives of the NRC staff met with representatives of the applicant on November 19, 1980 to discuss the open matters in the staff's geotechnical review of the application. A list of those persons who attended the meeting is enclosed.

2.

Purpose The purpose of the meeting was to define the open matters in the staff's geotechnical review and to reach resolution on the future actions needed to resolve those issues.

3.

Discussion The staff concerns deal with the conditions which caused greater then expected settlement of the service water intake structure and related equipment. The primary concern is whether future settlement will occur which might result in the loss of function of critical safety equipment.

The following structures are affected:

Service water intake structure Service water piping Electrical duct bank Pumphouse West embankment 8012160 g

2-After considerable discussion the staff concluded that existing infonnation was not sufficient to resolve our concerns. We outlined a prooram of additional investigation that consisted of additional borings, long the service water intake structure and west embankment and a profile measure-ment of the service water piping.

The applicant agreed to conduct this additional investigation program and will document that program for staff review and concurrence in the near futu re.
