SUBJECT:

Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 2 Docket No. 50-368 License No. NPF-6 CEN-139( A)-P, " Statistical Combination of Uncertainties", November,1980 (File: 2-1510)

REF: (a) CEN-123(F)-P, " Statistical Combination of Uncertainties" Part 2, January,1980 (b) CEN-124(B)-P, " Statistical Combination of Uncertainties" Part 2, January,1980 Gentlemen:

This letter transmits forty (40) copies of CEN-139( A)-P (proprietary),

document numbers 000001 through 0000,0, and twenty (20) copies of CEN-139(A)-NP (non-proprietary), " Statistical Combination of Uncertainties". This report describes the methods used to statistically combine system parameter uncertain-ties in the thermal margin analyses for AN0-2 Cycle 2.

The report is similar to those listed as references A and B as submitted by Florida Power and Light (FP&L) and Baltimore Gas and Electric (BG&E),

respectively. The overall statistical methods used in the ANO-2 report, CEN-139, are basically the same as those used in the Reference A and B reports.

However, the ANO-2 study incorporates plant design differences as well as experience gained from the BG&E and FP&L studies. In particular (1) the fuel design and system parameter data bases for /140-2 are different than those for the BG&E and FP&L studies, (2) uncertainties for system parameters are based on ANO-2 as-built 16 x 16 fuel data rather than that for 14 x '14 fuel and, (3) the number of cases analyzed to determine the sensitivity of system parameters for the AN0-2 analysis was reduced based on C-E's experience gained from the BG&E and FP&L studies.
