Dear Senator Moynihan:
I am quite concerned about the costs of the Shoreham Nuclear Power Plant.
The cost overruns that Shoreham now face-certainly show that the " inexpensive generatirg power" is now - expensive.
Originally, the Shoreham Plant was to cost $211 million (1975).
.~
In 1982 costs become $2.2 billion.
This shows that all of the J
former claims for cheap energy do not exist any longer.
Every year it becomes more and more expensive.
Every year maintenance ~
costs, building costs and health risks increase.
Do these cost overruns still qualify Shoreham to be completed?
If the public is expectad to pay 50*/. more in utility rate bills to accom=odate Shireham - it. damn wellWdecided by i
the public whether or not they want Shoreham or not and not be the decision of LILCO.
In any case, I urge you to vote for available funds for investigating of Shoreham's cost overruns.in the 1981 budget to complete the present investigation to its conclusion.
Hoping you are sympathetic to che public's present burden from inflation and not sympathetic to the profits of the Long Island Lighting Company, I remain,
. v.:
Very truly yours, Eve Weiss (Mrs.)
