Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 PRAIRIE ISLAND NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT Docket Nos. 50-282 License Nos. DPR-42 50-306 DPR-60 Submittal of Station Electric Distribution Systems Voltage Evaluation In a letter dated August 8,1979 from William Gammill, Acting Assistant Director for Operating Reactors Projects, Division of Operating Reactors, USNRC, we were requested to review the acceptability of the station electric distribution systems with regard to both (1) potential overloading due to transfers of loads, and (2) potential starting transient problems.
In our letter dated October 26, 1979 we stated that we would perform a detailed analysis and submit it to the Commission for review. We estimated that approximately six months would be requred for this work.
Because of the heavy work load placed on our technical staf f this year in addressing TMI Action Plan Requirements, fire protection modifications, and environmental qualification as well as a large number of IE Bulletins, our res 7rces have been severely strained.
As a result, work on the Prairie Island distribution system voltage evaluation was deferred and priority given to work having specific completion dates set by the Commission.
Progress has been made in completing the distribution system evaluation, however. A load flow computer model has been set up and preliminary calculations completed.
Additional calculations will be initated soon end a report summarizing the results of the study will be written.
Remaining work should be completed within eight weeks.
Please contact us if you have any questions related to the information we have provided or our schedule for completing the analyses requested in Mr Gammill's August 8, 1979 letter.
