v Transnuclear, Inc. herewith submits eight copies of an*

N addendum to the TN-8 and TN-9 Safety Analysis Report (Ref. 1) for the TN-8L packaging, and requests issuance of a Certificate of Compliance for the Model TN-8L packaging. The addendum describes and justifies the proposed TN-8L packaging design and contents.

The proposed TN-8L design is identical to the previously licensed TN-8 packaging (Ref. 2) except that forty-six (46) rows out of one hundred fifty (150) rows of fins have been deleted.

The design is justified by reducing the decay heat rejection capacity from 35.5 kw to 23.7 kw.

This reduction correcponds to an extension of the cooling time of the fuel assemblies from 150 days for the TN-8 to 225 days for the TN-8L.

It is shown in the addendum that under these conditions TN-8L fin temperatures are the same and TN-8L internal temperatures are lower than the corresponding TN-8 design temperatures.

Also, radiation dose rates are lower for the TN-8L.

Transnuclear proposes, in accordance with 10CFR170.12. (c),

that this application be accepted and reviewed as a minor amendment to the Transnuclear, Inc. application (Ref. 1) as the proposed design change is limited to the reduction oNE NORTH BROADWAY
