Dear Chairman Miller:

The Department of Water Resources hereby requests, on its own behalf and on behalf of the other intervenors, that the deadline for the filing of answers to the Joint Motion of Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the NRC Staff to Suspend Discovery and Motion Activity be extended to March 11, 1981.

This extension is sought to permit answering parties to receive and use the responses of PG&E to discovery requests directed to it for the purpose of responding to the joint motion.

We have been advised by counsel for PG&E and the NRC staff that neither objects to the granting of this extension.

We also take this opportunity to advise the board that the noticed deposition of Barton W. Shackelford is not taking place.

DWR and PG&E are working out alternative arrangements for providing DWR with the information sought tnrough that deposition, and it is the present expectation of DWR that the deposition of Mr. Shackelford in connection with the joint motion will not be necessary.
