Dear Mr. Denton:

Pursuant to the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54(f) and in accordance with the request of reference (a) this letter provides a written statement supporting the continued safe operation of the Zion reactors with regard to the environmental qualification of electrical equipment.

Reference (a) provided a list of potential equipment deficiencies that have been identified by the NRC Staff in reviewing Zion's safety-related electrical equipment to the 00R guidelines.

That list has been reviewed and it nas been concludeo that continued operation is justified.

Information supporting this conclusion is in our files.

When the staff identifies the basis for each of the potential deficiencies ioentified in Appendices 8 and C of reference (a), a report could be submitted to document the specifics our position with regard to each item.

This reply does not imply concurrence with the findings discussed in Reference (a).

The detail provided in reference (a) was not sufficient to a' ow us to review the validity of the findings.
