Loose Hanger Standard Parts Bushings INTERIM REPORT 3 DATE: February 13, 1981 PROJECT: Consumers Power Company Midland Plant Units 1 and 2 Bechtel Job 7220 Status of Corrective Action and Investigation The status of actions in progress for resolution of the subject manage-ment corrective actior. report (MCAR) is as follows:

Corner and Lada Company, Incorporated h*s been requeated to evaluate the use of spacers or other methods rather *.han the staking method pre-viously used. Corner and Lada stated that Bechtel could install spacers, but Bechtel would have to assume liability for the function of the strut. Bcchtel will continue to seek an acceptable resolution from Corner and Lada.

NPS Industries Inc. is investigating the use of washers to prevent dislodgement of their bushing. NPS had previously provided staking procedures to retain the bushings.

Bergen-Paterson Pipe Support Corporation has not yet responded with a resolution to the loose bushing problem. Bechtel will pursue a reso-lution frca Bergen Patterson.

Through dimensional analysis, ITT Grinnell has established that, although some partial bearing disengagement might be possible, the use of spacers will preclude total disengagement without affecting the proper design function of the sway struts. Grinnell has provided Bechtel with spacer sizes for all sway struts and shock arrestors provided to the Midland project. Grinnell also provides spacers with all sway struts and shock arrestors furnished for the Midland project. Bechtel is reviewing spacer size and bearing movement for acceptance as a resolution to the loose bushing problem.

The next interim raport is scheduled for >brch 27, 1981.
