DISTRIBUTION FEB 11 19St Loocketriies SA8 Rea31ng SAB Plant File DRMuller Docket No. 50-382 WHRegan LSoffer KCampe MEMORANDUM FOR:
R. Wayne Houston, Chief AASinisgalli Accident Evaluation Branch, OSI FRCM:
Wm. H. Regan, Jr., Chief Siting Analysis Branch, DE
SUBJECT:
POPULATION DATA INPUT FOR WATERFORD UilIT 3 Calculations presently beir perfomed to analyze the impact of plant accidents in accordance with the Comission's revised policy statement on Accident Considerations under NEPA utilize the CRAC code to make site-specific calcula-tions.
In support of these calculations we have estimated the population for the year 2000 within 22.5 degree sectors and out to 500 miles from Waterford Unit 3.
The estimates are provided in tabular fom in enclosure 1.
These estimates were obtained by developing a 1970 to 2000 population growth factor for each sub-sector using data in "1972 Obers Projection, Vol.1".
Each sub-sector was evaluated to determine its weighted Bureau of Economic AnalysisAreas(BEA's). The 8EA's were used to establish a population growth factor for each sub-sector. The 1970 census data tape was used in conjunction with the population growth factors to detemine the 2000 projected population.
For ranges out to 50 miles this was compared with the applicant's data. Reason-able agreement was found. The enclosed table incorporates the applicant's data from 5 to 50 miles. Within five miles the applicant's data was employed for residential and transient population estimates. The estimated weighted transient population was added to the residential population in determining the total population within five miles.
