Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention : Mr. Darrell 0. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:

In the Matter of the

)

Docket Nos. 50-259 Tennessee Valley Authority

)

50-260 50-296-This information report fulfills the requirements of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant units 1, 2, and 3 Environmental Technical Specifi-cations section 4.13 This section of the Environmental Technical Specifications defines special chlorination studies for the purpose of determining the adequacy of weekly sampling of chlorine residual.

in the raw cooling water system.

Enclosed is a tabulation which shows the chlorice residual in the raw cooling water for the two 3-week chlorination periods beginning in May and October 1976. Chlorine feed to the three units, in pounds per day of chlorine, is shown for each residual analysis. Also shown are calculated equivalent concentrations in the condenser discharge conduit.

Examination of the data reveals that, even though considerable fluctu-ations in feed rate occurred, the concentration in the condenser discharge never approached the technical specification limit of 0.05 mg/l as defined in specification 2.2.2 and that weekly sampling is adequate to demonstrate compliance with the specification.

Very truly yours, y
