SUBJECT:
GENERAL ELECTRIC TEST REACTOR (GETR)
HEARING PARTICIPATION The GETR has been shut down under Order since October 1977 pending determinatf an of proper seismic design criteria and a demonstration that the facility can withstand such seismic events.
The staff's safety evaluation regarding this subject has been issued and a hearing before the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board is scheduled to begin on May 26,1981. John Greeves, currently assigned to your staff in the High Level Waste Technical Development Branch, contributed in a significant manner to the landslide and soil-structure interface portions of the safety evaluation while assigned to the Hydrologic and Geotechnical Engineering Branch, NRR.
I request that John Greeves continue to represent his technical review in this complex issue. This will involve preparation for and participation in the ASLB hearing.
Please have John Greeves inform Chris Nelson, GETR Project Manager, X27563, of his Availability to provide, with your authorization, the requested support.
