20555 RE: NFS-4 Spent Fuel Shipping Cask (NAC-1 Cask)

Dear Mr. MacDonald:
Nuclear Assurance Corporation (NAC) hereby requests an amendment to Certificate of Compliance No. 6698 valid for a restricted period of time to provide for shipping the NFS-4/NAC-1 Spent Fuel Shipping Casks with a pro-tective coating applied to the outside surfaces.
The following wording is suggested for this amendment:
"A protective coating may be applied and remain on the outside surfaces of the cask during transport providing:
(a) the outer surfaces of the cask are decontaminated to releaseable levels as defined by Department of Transportation Regulations 49CFR173.39 prior to coating the cask; and (b) the heat generation of the contents of the package does not exceed 1 kw.

The expiration date of this amendment is March 9,1981."
