Dear Sir:

The Missouri-Kansas Section of the American Nuclear Society is requesting

,the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to intervene in the proceedings with respect to issuance of the operating license for the Wolf Creek Generating Station, Unit 1.

The American Nuclear Society is an incorporated, not-for-profit organiza-tion dedicated to the advancement of science and engineering relating to the atomic nucleus, and of allied sciences and arts, and the integration of the scientific disciplines constituting nuclear science and technology.

The Missouri-Kansas Section's goals are the same as the parent organization but more local in scope.

na majority of the Mo-Kan members live in the Kansas City area and will directly t.:- -Et from electric'.ty produced by Wolf Creek. We are concerned citizens, knowledgeable in t!e area of nuclear as well as other areas of energy production. We have supported Wolf Creek from its beginning and will continue to d so. We believe that Wolf Creek will produce needed electricity at a reasonable cost over other energy forms and produce it safely at an acceptable risk. Our members would be happy to discuss its safety, radiation risks, costs, wastes, etc. We feel that Wolf Creek deserses a fair hearing of its risks and benefits.

Our members are concerned about the high cost of electricity as well l other energy forms, and the failure of this naTEri"to come to g 3Ch/'

its energy problems. With the rbove concerns"in mind, we res ey @

submit this petition. 8 . I Sincerely, i
