6 STATUS REPORT NO. 2 FOR PRD-80/54 I.
Description of Deficiency On Septenber 5,1980, Mississippi Power & Light Company noti-fied Mr. M. Hunt of the NRC of a Potentially Reportable Defi-ciency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) construc-tion site. Seismic HVAC hangers were found to have incomplete welds at member connection points.
Further investigation re-vealed missing braces, undersized rupport members and hangers not welded to the duct.
II.
Approach To The Resolution Of The Problem The deficiency concerns the installation of HVAC II over I and "Q" supports in violation of AISC and AWS Codes. This generic deficiency const tutes a significant reduction in the strength i
and quality of the entire HVAC support system and could have a detrimental effect upon the safety of plant operations. It has been determined that conditions satisfy the reporting cri-teria under 10CFR50.55(e).
The constructor is presently performing actions to correct nonconformances identified in Management Corrective Action Request (MCAR) 104.
(Previously reported as QAR F-223)
III.
Status Of Proposed Resolution The Inspection is presently underway by the constructor. The anticipated date of completion of all inspection and docume7ta-tion is February 27, 1981. Tne espestE-completion date or all rework ~ construction and re-inspection Ei April 30, 1981.
~
IV.
Reason For Final Report Delay The constructor's actions to resolve this problem include inspec-tion of the condition, evaluation and documentation followed by re-inspection of rework construction. Accessability to the items complicates the inspection procedure.
In certain cases, scaffolding will need to be erected to permit the inspector access to the work.
V.
Projected Final Report submittal Date It is anticipated that a final report on this matter can be presented May 28, 1981.
