'5 Director' of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention: Mr. A. Schwencer, Chief Licensing Branch No. 2 Division of Licensing U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555

Dear Mr. Schwencer:

In the Matter of the Application of

)

Docket Nos. 50-327 Tennessee Valley Authority

)

50-328 In connection with the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) review of the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, TVA indicated that all containment boundary components would be investigated and modifications implemented, if deemed necessary, to confirm that the 1/2-inch cylindrical shell plate between elevations 782 and 791.5 is the critical part of the containment boundary for yield pressure capacity. TVA has determined that for the current design the pgrsonnel air lock has a calculated yielg pressure capacity of 42 lb/in gauge which is less than the 45 lb/in gauge stated as the structural capability of the Sequoyah containment in the ACRS letter dated September 8,1980, from H. Plesset to J. Ahearne.

The personnel air lock is to be modified witg additional stiffeners such that its yield capacity will exceed 45 lb/in gauge. This modification is currently scheduled to be completed by January 30, 1981.

Very truly yours, TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY
