INSTITUTE (617) 753-1411 January 12, 1981 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regalatory Commission Washington, D..:. 20555 Re: Docket No. 50-134 ANNUAL REPORT
Dear Sir:
During the past year the WPI Open Pool Reactor has operated in routine fashion in support of our academic program. There were no unusual occur-rences and no abnormal radiation exposures to personnel. The annual major overhaul of the reactor control system was completed on schedule and all gatems appear in excellent condition.
We have had no major transfers of radioactive material to or from the reactor facility. Work is continuing on our renewal application with respect to revision of our security plan and our emergency plan. A new full time employee, Mr. Thomas White, has joined the staff as replacement for our former Nuclear Specialist, Mr. Bleakney.
Mr. White obtained his operator's license November 5,1980, bringing our licensed operator staff up to a total of four. We also have three senior operators with active l
licenses.
Student enrollment in our nuclear engineering elective courses is hold-ing fairly constant, averaging between 30 and 40 students entering the first course in the sequence annually.
If we can furnish any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours,
(.
