License No. DPR235 Docket No. 50-293
Dear Sir:
Per your letter dated September 24, 1980 requesting modifications to the power supply for the RPS at Pilgrim Station, we offer the following:
We agree with the concept of installing a Class IE System at the boundary non IE power supply and RPS, and in order to provide the most positive form of protection for mitigating the effects of potential undetected single component failure on tne operation of the RPS, we are analyzing the merits of the design proposed by General Electric Company as well as other cost effective design alternatives which would satisfy the concern in question.
It is anticipated that the engineering evaluation for these changes will be completed by March 1981.
Proposed design modifications as a result of this evaluation will be submitted to your office by April 1981.
Installation will follow at the first opportune re-fueling outage shutdown pending receipt of materials, and applicable technical specification changes will be submitted to coincide with modification installation.
j Should you require any additional information en this subject at this time, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Very truly yours, l
