August 31, 1979 MEMORANDUM FOR:

R. M. Bernero FROM:

Peter Sicilia, Jr.

SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

TRIP REPORT During the periods August 15-17, 1979, and August 21-24, 1979, Harry S. North and I interviewed members of the Radiation Chemistry Sections of the Metropolitan Edison Company and the General Public Utilities Service Company.

All of these interviews were conducted on site at TMI and were recorded on tape. A master list of interviewees and their respective interview numbers is attached as #1.

The purpose of the interviews was to determine the depth and extent of training in radiation protection and emergency preparedness and to determine incidents of interface with NRC personnel. The lines of questioning equally represented Task Groups 3 (Radiation Protection Training), 4 (Utility's Emergency Response Training), and 5 (Utility Interface with NRC).

For those interviews that indicate an interface between the utility and NRC, or contain information considered to be of interest to task group 5,I am pre-paring summaries for those portions, which will be submitted when completed.
