l Description of Fire Protection for Fire Area 13 Units 1 and 2 In a conference call on October 10, 1980 between Alabama Power Company, Bechtel, and the flRC,~ a question was raised concerning redundant A and B train safe shutdown cabling located in the West Cable Chase - Fire Area 13. This fire area is described in the Farley fluclear Plant Fire Protection Reevaluation Program on pages 4-178 and 4-179 dated October,1978.
This table describes the plant configuration in Units 1 and 2 relating to safe shutdown equipment in Fire Area 13.
In Unit 1 there are redundant A and B trains of safe shutdown cables as noted in the table.
As described in the submittal, the following fire protection measures prevent and/or mitigate the consequences of a fire in this area:
1.
Automatic water supression system 2.
Wrapping of raceway trains A and C and channelized raceways 2, 3, and 4 with two inches of Kaowool which provides at least a one-hour fire barrier.
3.
A smoke detection system to provide early warning of a fire and provide adequate time for the fire brigade to extinguish the fire using the water hose in adjacent Room 319 or the CO2 hose reel in Room 415.
As a result of the Unit 1 fire protection reevaluation, modifications were made in Fire Area 13 in Unit 2 to preclude the interference which exists in Unit 1.
Specifically the safe shutdown A train cables which are redundant to B train cables in the fire area were routed through a different fire zone.
Although no redundant safe shutdown A train and B train cables are routed in Unit 2 Fire Area 13, the following cables which provide redundant indication on the Main Control Board and the Hot Shutdown Panel are routed through this chase:
l.
A train cables AI50070, AIS007E, and AI5007F; and AQ5003B, AQ5004B, and AQ5005B which are utilized to provide steam line pressure indication from pressure transmitters PT3371A, PT33718, and PT3371C on the Hot Shutdown Panel.
2.
Protection channel 2 cables (2V5001W, 2V500lX, 2V5001Y), protection channel 3 cables (3V5001X, 3V5001Y, 3V5001Z), and protection channel 4 cables (4V5003T, 4V5003U, 4V5003V) which are used to provide steam line pressure indication from pressure transmitters PT474, PT484, PT494, PT475, PT485, PT495, PT476, PT486, and PT495 in the Main Control Room.
The following fire protection measures prevent and/or mitigate the consequencies of a fire in this Unit 2 fire area:
1.
Automatic water supression system

Wrapping of the conduits which contain cables associated with PT474, PT485, and PT496-(to provide one indicaticn per steam generator) with two inches of Kaowool which provides at least a one-hour fire barrier.
