in July -1970, a docision was made by the Applicants to install a cooling tower at Davis-Besse. This decision made sections of Dr. Ayers' Limnolecy Report that pertained to the heated water discharge and the intake and dis-charge canal dikes extending into the water irrelevant. At this same time, the AEC regulatory staff directed us to use a probable maximum meteorolocical event along with Plat: man's method of analyzing wind tides on Lake Erie te j-calculate the probable maximum high and extreme low lake levels. As a result, Dr. Ayers' seetions, MAXIMUM VARIATIONS IN LAKE ERIE WATER LEVEL (Pp. 13-21 l

of Part I) and THE MAXIMUM WIND-WAVE (Pp. 22-24 of Part I), were removed from t

Gection 2D o'f the PSAR with A=endment No. 8.

The results of the new water level calculations were inse.-ted in Section 2.h.l.2 of the PSAR.

Part IV of Dr. Ayer:' L1=nology Report was received by us in JuJy 1970 which I

was too late to be included in the PSAR before the full meeting of the Advisory l

Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) reviewed the Davis-Besce application t

in Au6ust 1970.

Additional sections of Dr. Ayers' Limnology Report were deleted when we pre-pared the Davis-Besse Environmental Report in June and July 1970. All references l

in Part I to use of lake water for condenser cooling were removed due to our l

cooling tower decision. The details on eac'h of the current pole runs given in Fart II were ' deleted and only the summary of this data was retained in the l-l Environmental Report. Also, all references to the heated water plume were de-leted from Part II. Sections of Part III Limnology Report pertaining to Big

- Rock and Enrico-Fermi nuclear Power Stations were also removed for use in the Davis-Besse Environmental. Report as they were not pertinent.

We are sending Dr. Davies complete copies of Parts I and IV of Dr. Ayers ' Lim-nology Report and Parts II and III are complete in-the PSAR.
