I am writing in response to your letter to the Comission regarding changes in NRC regulations as a result of the accident at Three Mile Island.
I regret that the answer to this letter has been delayed for so long. The accident and its consequences have created a substantial increase in the agency's workload which has prevented me from responding to you as promptly as I would have liked.
I am sending you a copy of a report to the NRC Comissioners and to the public by the NRC Special Inquiry Group on the Three Mile Island accident (RogovinReport). This report discusses proposed changes in regulation of nuclear power plants. The report of the President's Comission on the Accident at Three Mile Island is available from the Government Printing Office, Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D.C.
20402, at a cost of $5.50. The GPO stock number is 052-003-00718-5.
I am also enclosing a copy of NRC's 1979 Annual Report. Chapter 2 discusses the accident at TMI and NRC responses to recommendations made by the President's Comission on the Accident.
There are a ntaber of other NRC publications which may be of assistance in your research. Enclosed is a list of these documents and their costs.
