r the sourhern electrc system October 22, 1980 I.E. Bulletin No. 80-11 Mr. James P. O'Reilly U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Region II 101 Marietta Street, N.W.

Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In our response to I.E. Bulletin No. 80-11 dated July 7,1980, Alabama Power Company comitted to complete re-evaluation of masonry walls at Farley Nuclear Plant Unit 1 according to the following schedule:

Priority 1 - To be completed by September 30, 1980 Priority 2 - To be completed by October 15, 1980 Priority 3 - To be completed by November 7, 1980 The initial walkdown reported in our July 7 response was adequate to identify all concrete block walls and to allow a preliminary assess-ment that no structural problems exist. However, in order to perfonn a detailed engineering re-evaluation, it is necessary to prepare as-built engineering drawings of each of the walls. This effort is taking considerably longer than originally anticipated and many of the drawings can not be completed until sometime in the upcoming outage (nominally scheduled for November 7 thru January 5).

It is expected that the pace of drawing preparation will be accelerated when the draftsmen can be granted freer access to Unit 1 as a result of the outage. All engineering drawings of the as-built condition of the masonry walls will be completed by the end of the outage. Engineering re-evaluation of the priority 1 walls will be completed approximately 10 days thereafter (allowing for 1,nclusion of all field information) or about January 15, 1981. The engineering re-evaluation of the priority 2 walls will be completed by January 30, 1981. The priority 3 walls are not attached nor are they in the proximity of any safety-related equipment. No further evaluation beyond that already accomplished will be undertaken for priority 3 walls.

Upon completion of the re-evaluation, Alabama Power Company will submit a report of our findings as required in Item 2b. of the bulletin.
