p-December 12, 1979 President Carter White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Washington, D.C.

Dear President Carter:

Re Three Mile Island--Metropolitan Edison and General Public Utilities have decided to release radioactive Kryptogn-85ases into the air, and the NRC seems likely'to~go Moni wlih this. This ~ disposal method isn't the safest =b0tllet Ed and GPU do^n't~thi5k~ people's safety is worth the extra money.

Stop the venting of Krypton-85.

The NRC has been thoroughly discredited by your own President's Commission on the TMI accident. The citizens of central Pennsylvania need protection.

NRC won't do it because of its vested interest in furthering the nuclear industry.

It is vital for the health and safety of these people that an independent committee oversee the dangerous clean-up process.

Establish

,)

such a committee now.

Last month, the Surgeon General released a report entitled Healthy People in which he called for reductions in radiation levels as one way of protecting the health of our citizens. You signed the forward, saying, "Together we can make the goals expressed in this report a reality."

Fulfill your promise:

I live in Cincinnati, Ohio, but the actions *n Pennsylvania affect me.

The radiation released at TMl cannot be walled within any county, state or nation.

The precedents established at TMI will carry over to similar situations, including. Zimmer in my backyard.
