Subject:
Yankee Rowe Containment Electrical Penetration MI Cable End Seals During recent conversations with members of your staff, Yankee has been made aware of potential problems with containment electrical penetration mineral insulated cable and seals at Connecticut Yankee.
Though the Connecticut Yankee end seals are of a similar design to those used at Yankee Rowe, the environmental conditions at Yankee Rowe are less stringent than at Connecticut Yankee; therefore, we do not necessarily anticipate similar problems. However, as a precautionary measure we are proposing to take correctiv_e_ action similar to that taken by Connecticut Yankee.
The only equipment inside the containment required to be operational subsequent to a LOCA are 3 Post-Accident Hydrogen Recirculation fans and 2 hydrogen sampling solenoid valves. We are proposing to modify the end seals associated with this equipment with a design identical to that recently approved for use at Connecticut Yankee on their end seals.
The above modifications will be completed by June 27, 1978, and will be accomplished by means of an Engineering Design Change Request.
This modification has been reviewed by the Nuclear Safety Audit and Review Committee.
This letter supersedes our letter No. WYR 78-54 dated June 19, 1978 on the same subject; information contained therein should be disregarded in its entirety.
